Road Map to Happiness
” Between the banks of pain and pleasure the river of life flows”.
This is a quote by Nisargadutt Maharaj in his famous book “ I AM THAT”. This says that life fluctuates between happiness and sadness for every person..But the person can decide which on which bank he wants to remain most of the time. In other words a person can consciously remain in a state of happiness if he chooses.
There are no rules for how to be happy. But there are some basic principles that faith and traditions from across cultures and through the ages agree on, and that science supports. Here are some guidelines to help you shift into a brighter mood
i. IT’S YOUR MOOD
Most of us live in memories of the past or in the dreams of the future. This either creates sorrow or fear. This affects our state of happiness. People may ask what is wrong in clinging on to a happy memory or a dream. It can bring happiness. The problem is people are mostly negative and what starts as a beautiful memory will soon end up in a painful one. Try to live in the present or in the now and create a state of beingness of a happy situation
ii. IT’S AN INSIDE JOB.
No one else can make you happy. It should come from inside of your mind. No external factors can bring everlasting happiness. You may feel happy when you buy a car or a house of your dreams. But this happiness remains for only a little while. After that it vanishes and now you may be wanting something else.In fact no outside objects can make you permanently happy.
iii.. YOU CAN HAVE IT NOW
You can be happy at point you want. There is no restriction or constraint. When we are happy we smile. So when we smile we become happy. So bringing a smile to your face is the immediate and easy for you to become happy.
